The Seed That Didn't Fly

The Seed That Didn't Fly

Dear Lyfairs,

Is it possible to customize the Seed Chandelier? I'd need an oval canopy, gold — 72 inches long, 12 wide, with at least 200 lights. Could you give me a builder's price, please?

Dear Customer,

It's been a few weeks now since our last email. I don't know if you'll ever read this. But I wanted to write it anyway — because some conversations stay with you, and ours was one of them.

You came to us just before Christmas, with a very clear picture in your mind: a seed chandelier, oval, gold, blooming over a dining room. And then — you did the thing I love most. You didn't stop at "good enough." You kept making it more beautiful.

Two hundred seeds, you said at first. Then you wondered — would two hundred look dense enough? What if we went to three hundred? You wanted a cloud of seeds, thick and full. You asked whether the gold was real brass, or resin. Whether the glass was truly glass. You sent us the shape of your ceiling, and asked if the canopy could follow its curve — wider in the middle, narrower at the ends. You even sent a photo of the bare ceiling, still under construction, the ductwork still showing.

And with each question, we drew it again. Two hundred became three hundred. The round canopy became an oval that followed your ceiling. We worked out the mounting, the tolerances, the single power line you asked about. Drawing after drawing, we shaped that cloud of light together — you in Texas, us across the world, both of us trying to see the same thing in our minds.

In the end, you didn't place the order.

And I want you to know — that's completely alright.

Because somewhere in those two weeks, between the drawings and the questions, something real happened. Two strangers, on opposite sides of the world, spent a little while imagining the very same chandelier — how dense the seeds should be, how the gold would catch the light, how it would bloom over a family's table.

In a world this loud, this fast, this full of noise — for two people to truly see each other, even for a moment, even over a light that was never built… I think that's a kind of gift.

So thank you. Thank you for letting us dream alongside you. That seed chandelier never flew to your ceiling — but it's still glowing, quietly, somewhere in my heart.

And if the time is ever right — for this light, or any other — you know where to find us. We'll be here.

With gratitude,
Lyfairs Team

P.S. — Have a light in your mind that you can’t find anywhere? Write to us. Whether or not it’s ever built, we’d be glad to dream it with you. — Letters to Lyfairs
