I am someone who grew up a little short of love.
For years, I think I was searching, somewhere beneath the surface, for a kind of unconditional love that understands my needs. A love that would love me as I am, whether or not I did things well. I searched for a long time, trying to find it in many people, and many relationships. But search as I might, I never quite found it. That feeling of seeking and not finding stayed with me for many years.
But lately, I don't quite know why, I suddenly let it go, and suddenly felt free.
Because I suddenly realized that I had been loved unconditionally all along. Only the one who loved me was not the people I had been searching among. It was nature.
Think of it. It gave me a healthy body, one that can run and leap and feel this world. It gave me a face that isn't bad to look at. And it gave me a heart that can feel beauty, and can love others, a good heart. It never once asked whether I deserved these things, and never asked for anything in return. It simply, quietly, gave them to me.
Isn't this the very unconditional love I had been searching for all these years. It was here all along. I had only kept my head down, asking it of others, and never noticed.
Understanding this, the corner of my heart that had always felt empty seemed, all at once, to be filled.
It turns out I do not lack for love. I have been well loved all along.
And when I felt myself filled with love, something wonderful happened. I suddenly wanted to love, too. To share this beauty I had felt, with others.
This, I think, may be the most beautiful growth of all these years. That little girl who grew up short of love, always searching for it out in the world, finally, one day, found that she had been loved all along, and then grew a heart that wanted to love others.
How lucky I am, to have been born on this beautiful blue planet, and born into this peaceful, kind-hearted age.
I only wanted to write this growth down, and share it with you.
