A Letter to a Friend

To a friend who appeared in our lives, like a gift.

Dear friend,

There are things we have long wanted to say to you, and yet never quite knew how. Because what you have done for us is so much, and so warm.

You were, at first, simply one of our customers. And yet you have helped us, again and again, as though our matters were your own. You will do, for people you have never met, the things no one ever asked you to do. You are willing to give of yourself, to set at ease a stranger still hesitating, still afraid to trust us.

And every time, after you have helped us, you take such care to let us know how it went. You have held our matters, truly and tenderly, in your heart.

We often wonder how there can be someone as good as you in this world.

You lack for nothing, and you seek nothing. You help us for no reward at all, simply because your heart is filled, already, with kindness. And that kindness is so pure, so natural, like breathing.

To be honest, for a time we did not know how to thank you. Any words seemed too small.

But slowly we came to understand that what you have given us is, in truth, far more than help.

You are like a beam of light. You have shown us that a person can live this way, so purely, so kindly. You have made us believe again, in a world that can sometimes leave one weary, in the power of goodness.

And you have stirred a wish in us. We want to become someone like you. To be, as you are, purely kind, and to light the way for others, asking for nothing in return.

You may not know it, but you have already changed us.

Because we met you, we have grown all the more certain of what kind of brand we wish to be. We want to treat every customer as someone as precious as you. We want to carry the kindness in you, that light, and pass it on, to more of the people we meet.

What you have taught us has become the thing we treasure most. It has become the first, and truest, heart we most wish to guard, in all that we do.

Thank you, our friend. Thank you for appearing in our lives, like a gift. We will cherish you dearly, and cherish, too, this beautiful bond between us.
