That Song

That Song

One year, I went to see a film.

To be honest, I wasn't really drawn into it. But at the very end, during the closing credits, something suddenly moved me.

It was a piece of music, set to a vast, sweeping image. There were children in it, a Ferris wheel, fireworks going up into the sky. And in that moment, something enormous reached out and touched me.

I took out my phone right away to search for the song.

It was Michael Jackson's "Heal the World."

I'd heard the name as a child, but I had never paid it any attention. To me, back then, Michael Jackson was just a name.

But after that day, I began to listen to that song, seriously, again and again.

I can't describe the feeling very well. The melody, the sound of it, was like a pair of gentle hands, softly soothing a small child. It made me feel quiet, and warm, and held by some very large love.

It was extraordinary. I thought then that he seemed to have gone beyond an ordinary person. In my heart, he was like a heart of the universe.

Later, I slowly understood that what moved me wasn't only the melody. It was what the melody carried. It was the love he wanted to give to this world through his music.

He took what he believed in his heart, translated it into music, and sent it to every corner of the world, even into the heart of someone like me, who hadn't cared about him at all. Across all that distance, across all those years, that love still reached me, and held me.

That was when I understood that love can travel like this. It can pass through language, through countries, through time, and land in a stranger's heart, and light up the glow inside them.

The person who lit me up is truly remarkable.

I often think of that day. A person who had been just a name to me became, because of one song, a light shining into my life.

I am only an ordinary person. What I do is so much smaller than what he did. I'm just someone who makes lights and chooses beautiful things. But I, too, want to do my work well, with care.

Even if it's just selling things, I want to do it with love, with warmth, and deliver every single order well.

He gave love through music. I want to use these beautiful things in my hands to send the same small warmth to the person who will be moved by it.

And if one day, something I made could light up the glow in someone's heart, the way that song lit up mine, even just one person, then all of this will have been worth it.
