Guarding the Pure of Heart

Lately, I think I've slowly come to understand what inspiration is.

Inspiration is simply creation.

I've found that the purer a person is, the more creative they are. Because their heart is clean, not blocked by all the worldly calculation and self-interest. And so beautiful things can flow out of them, naturally. What they create brings so much beauty into this world.

I've also found that creation comes out of stillness. Like when we meditate, and the whole self grows quiet. It's only when a person settles into quiet that the beautiful, creative things slowly surface. The noisier, the more crowded the heart, the less it can create.

I want, very much, to guard these pure-hearted people, and the beauty they create.

This is also why I love this piece by Gordon Gu, the Ripple Bathtub.

It's made of glacier crystal. Its inspiration comes from mountain streams, and the natural shape of valleys. The whole tub is translucent, just like water itself.

When you lie in it and soak, you feel as though you've truly returned to the quiet upstream waters of a valley. In that moment, bathing is no longer just bathing. It becomes a stretch of time that quiets you.

Looking at it, I think, this is beauty, created by a pure-hearted person, with real care. He must have truly loved those mountains, that water, in his heart first, to be able to work such tranquility into a bathtub.

What I do with Lyfairs is really this same thing. To find the beautiful things created by pure-hearted, careful people, to guard them well, and to carry them to the people in the world who can feel them too.

To guard purity, to guard creation, to guard the people who bring beauty into the world. This is what I want to keep doing.
